Traveling cigarette vending machines showcase local art

The brightly colored cigarette vending machine sitting there gets a lot of double takes,A generation ago, the bulky, red-painted behemoth was a belle of the bar.Folks would line up to plunk coin after coin into its slot, hoping to curb their late-night nic fits.Material results from the crushing and then do the sifting or screening that will produce two kinds of Mobile crushing plant products are products which qualify for the so-called sieve undersize which is a product that will be further processed or as a final product, and materials that do not qualify for the so-called over sized sieve which is a product that must be Crushing done again.Today, the fix it gives is decidedly different. The skinny Marlboros and Newports it used to spit out for cash are replaced with "upcycled" wool-knitted pierogies, stuffed "Teeny Kreepy Dolls" and jewelry made from old silverware. The 500-pound machine and a second one just like it were on their way to a landfill a couple of years ago before Lynne Kropinak shelled out $300 to save them. She fixed them up, gave them snazzier colors and stocks them routinely with locally made art instead of smokes. She hopes they will help cast local art into a brighter, if not more memorable, spotlight.
"They dispense much healthier things now," says Kropinak, who owns the traveling Pittsburgh Craft-O-Tron machines. All the crafts dispensed from the machines are made from upcycled materials. Upcycling is the process of reclaiming discarded items and converting them into a new item of value. Supporters say the practice benefits both the art world and the environment.Items from the machines sell for $5. Each comes with a business card with information about the artist. In what she calls "a labor of love," Kropinak lugs the machines each month from place to place for display. The machines were a great vehicle in April for Niffer Desmond to showcase her cache of handmade stickers and frilly sachets. Both machines were mounted inside Garfield Artworks studio during Pittsburgh's citywide First Fridays arts festival. For those who lead a comparatively active lifestyle which includes lots of travel, sports activities and active utilization of their 2200mah battery pack a far more rugged and for that reason more costly iPhone case is most likely warranted.Pick a case within the $25 to $35 range that snugly encases your iPhone either in a plastic or silicone case.
The looks at first were skeptical, but it didn't take long for many to warm to the concept and start shelling out for art."Yes, they're cigarette machines .There are still the more modern versions of sight for Handmade glasses that bring into the world a discrepancy of functions that are tailored because of your needs. Entire of these functions is the faculty to album what you're seeing fully the goggles with hardly a shove of a button, so if you reveal a brigand in your forebears, you can at least own a recording to flaunt the authorities if he escapes... but the reception was overwhelmingly positive," says Desmond, of Brookline. "Our art was made accessible to the public. They provided a melting pot of all these talents that otherwise wouldn't have been discovered."This month, the machines are at the ToonSeum, the cartoon-centric museum in Downtown, and at Cats and Dogs Coffee House in Lawrenceville.Keith Van Atter's eyebrows rise slightly as he walks into the coffee shop's back room to get a closer look at the wildly decorated machine, packed with cellphone-size paintings, finger-strung necklaces and hand-sewn patches."This is the first time I've ever gone to a cigarette machine and not wanted a smoke," says Van Atter, 27, of Bloomfield.Kropinak, of Canonsburg, got the idea from a magazine article she read while in a doctor's office a couple of years ago. The story was about artist Clark Wittington and his Art-o-Mat machines, which were repurposed cigarette vending machines that dispense art at locations all over the United States, including the 1999 Three Rivers Arts Festival.
