NTL Electronics mulls manufacturing plant in Africa


Lighting solutions provider NTL Electronics India is mulling setting up its first overseas manufacturing plant in Africa as it looks to expand global footprint.The company, which currently exports its products to South Africa, Ghana and some European countries,The company has plunged into this business with an aim to bring awareness among the people for energy conservation. They are well recognized for famous eco-friendly Motion sensor light products comprising solar lantern, solar water submersible pump, solar led light, solar water pump etc. will take a final decision on setting up of the plant in the next 6-12 months. It is also targetting to more than treble its sales to up to Rs 1,700 crore in the next five years."We are looking forward to putting up a plant in Africa. We are looking at it actively. There is a potential and at present we are evaluating which country will be conducive for setting up the plant," NTL Electronics India Managing Director Arun Gupta told PTI.The company prefers to have a local partner in establishing a manufacturing base in Africa, he added. "So, currently we are understanding the markets and the challenges. In the next 6-12 months, we will finalise our strategy on setting up the plant in the African continent," Gupta said.
Commenting on sales target, Gupta said the company is looking at a turnover of up to Rs 1,700 crore in the next five years from both its LED and non-LED businesses."We hope to touch Rs 1,000 crore from non-LED business.The newly formed LED segment is estimated to contribute Rs 600-700 crore in the next five years," he added.Solar power Lighting are also important because it allows you to store the LED lamp produced by your panel sections for later use, even when the Sun is not glowing. Very similar to the solar sections themselves, the battery isn't cheap but the power benefits really add up. Typically, property owners who set up a solar system see a revenue in money stored on houses in as little as three decades or as many as ten years.The company had last year clocked a turnover of Rs 550 crore from the conventional lighting business, he said.Earlier this year, NTL Electronics has formed an equal joint venture -- NTL Lemnis BV -- with the Netherlands-based Lemnis for producing LED lights.
At present, the company is exporting all its LED lights and has just begun selling them in domestic market as well."There is a huge potential of LED lights in India. This segment has just started its journey in India and the market is estimated to be around Rs 700-800 crore," Gupta said. He said the company is expecting a sales of Rs 300 crore from domestic market in the next five years.The company's exports,Garden decoration is a healthy activity and without Solar charger such decoration is not possible. Solar lights are very much in fashion because they are stylish in appearance and cheaper to purchase. Without lights it appears that something is missing from the garden which no owner likes. It is a good hobby to keep the garden in good condition. which is estimated to contribute Rs 100 crore in the first year, is likely to grow to Rs 300-400 crore in five years, he added.NTL Electronics currently has six production facilities in India, located at Noida, Dehradun and Roorkee. While it has a capacity to produce 132-144 million pieces of non-LED lights per year, about 5 million LED lamps can be made annually.Gupta further said the company will expand the capacity of its LED lights to 15-20 million units annually in the next five years at an investment of around Rs 100 crore.
