Panasonic to donate 100,000 solar powered lanterns to people

According to recent statistics, about 1.32 billion people in the world are living without electricity and since most of these people live in developing and underdeveloped parts of the world, the infrastructure to produce electricity using alternative energy is not present. In an effort to change the lives of thousands of families, scotch rocks Panasonic Corp has launched the 100 Thousand Solar Lantern Project. The project will see the tech giant donate 100,Stone crusher000 solar-powered lanterns to people living in regions without electricity. Till date, people in these areas make use of kerosene powered lamps, which apart from releasing toxic fumes, don't produce much light and hence limit the kind of work people can do after dark. As the first stage in the project, Panasonic will be donating 3000 portable solar lanterns to NGOs in Myanmar and next month the company will donate an additional 5000 lamps to NGOs in India, along 2000 to a refugee camp in Africa. "We had three small boats in need of a power generation system," Bosley said. "We had some small solar panels, kitchen knives but we needed more energy than they alone could provide, for things like refrigeration, long-range communications, electronics and lights. Also, with a smaller boat there's very little room on deck and you don't have space below for large battery banks, which are also very heavy."That's when the concept of the Solar Stik was born, he said."The first Solar Stik was a small, lightweight system that could produce the same amount of power as a much larger system," Bosley said. "Another thing that helps is its ability to be easily adjusted to follow the sun and get the maximum solar exposure. The heat melts the wax and the ink is transferred to the paper or all in one touch pos terminal and instantly dries so that the printing on the paper does not smudge."The first units were crudely constructed late at night, Bosley said, but they stood up to the harsh elements and logged thousands of miles at sea. Bosley, 43, acts as the chief technical officer for the company.Hydraulic press is widely used in heavy duty jobs across the various industries. It uses a structural steel cylinder to generate compressive force. Zaccor calls him "the brains behind the product line."The company still offers marine units on the retail market, but the land-based "terra" Solar Stiks have taken over the bulk of their business."We've stayed in the marine market because we love it, and it's where we started," Zaccor said, "but it's a small part of our business these days. Back in 2007, Brian became aware of the fact that the military needed something like what he was making, so he basically brought the marine system to land."
